Lesson 1 · Know the Business Updated Sep 2, 2026

How This Business Makes Money: From Traffic to Payout

Understand the money chain: players search, Google ranks you, ads get seen, advertisers pay. Three minutes to set honest expectations for month one.

Walk the real chain first

You search Google for a game’s redeem codes, click a site near the top, and the page shows some ad slots. In those few seconds, money moves:

Player searches → Google ranks your page → player clicks in → ads get seen → advertiser pays → you get a share

That is the entire business. You build the bridge between link 1 (content) and link 4 (ads); Google delivers the visitors, advertisers pay for the attention you aggregate. You never sell anything to players — guides are free to read, and advertisers fund the transaction.

Where the money enters, and the honest order of magnitude

Ad money settles per thousand impressions/clicks. For game guide sites the common ballpark is: every 1,000 page visits brings roughly a few dimes to a few dollars (it swings hard with player geography, season, and ad performance — this number builds intuition only; it is not a promise).

From that magnitude, three iron laws of the business:

  1. One page is not enough — you need dozens. A single page getting a few dozen visits a day earns nothing; dozens of pages each targeting one query are the real traffic base.
  2. Return visits beat one-time visits. Players come back daily for a codes page, so the same traffic earns more reliably. That is why a later lesson puts the codes page first in the writing order.
  3. Month one is all cost, no income. Content takes time to accumulate, Google takes time to index, and ads unlock only after you qualify. The normal state of week one: site alive, wallet untouched.

Three classic mistakes (made for you in advance)

  • “Build it and they will come.” Building the site just opens the shop; until Google knows you, nobody walks past. Getting people here is link 1 — content aimed at real queries.
  • “I need to learn programming first.” This template squeezes the tech down to “follow a few commands” — you will not write a line of code in this manual. The real homework is picking the right game and producing content at volume.
  • “Day one is ads day.” Ads are a switch that renders nothing while its value is empty — ten minutes to turn on. Turned on with no content and no traffic, revenue is zero. Build the engine first.

Three words to know (just these)

  • Traffic: how many people visit your site. The raw material of the business.
  • Monetization: turning traffic into money — in this manual, specifically ads.
  • SEO: the craft of getting Google to rank your pages — that is, making link 1 work. The whole manual teaches it.

✅ Acceptance (all must hold)

  • You can retell the five-link chain from memory
  • You can say where the money enters (advertisers) and why one page is not enough (the math above)
  • ☐ You accept that month one pays nothing

The chain is clear, but walking it end to end takes 30 days and six stops. Next lesson gives you the full subway map: what each stop does, what you carry away, and where people derail. Go to Lesson 2 · The Full Map
